In this article, we’ll show you how to set up a VPN on a Fios router in two different ways.
What is a VPN?
A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, is a secure tunnel between two or more devices. VPNs are used to protect private web traffic from snooping, interference, and censorship. A VPN encrypts your internet connection and masks your IP address so your online activity is private and anonymous.
Fios routers support VPN passthrough for PPTP and L2TP protocols. This means that you can connect to a VPN without having to install any special software on your router. You will need to set up your VPN on each individual device that you wish to connect to the VPN network.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to setting up a VPN on your Fios router:
1. Log in to your router’s web interface by typing http://192.168.1.1 into your browser’s address bar.
2. Enter your username and password when prompted (the default username is “admin” and the default password is “password”).
3. Click on the “Network” tab at the top of the page (this may be labeled as “Advanced” in some routers).
4. Select the “VPN Passthrough” option from the list of options on the left side of the page (this may be labeled as “PPTP Passthrough” or “L2TP Passthrough”). 5. Setting up a VPN on your Fios Router

Step 1: Log into your router
Now that you have a VPN account, your next step is to log into your router. You will need to know your router’s IP address, username and password. These can usually be found on the underside of your router or in the documentation that came with it.
If you can’t find your router’s IP address, you can try looking it up in your computer’s settings. On a Windows PC, open the Control Panel and go to Network and Sharing Center. Click on Change adapter settings and look for the entry for your router. The IP address will be listed next to Default Gateway.

Step 2: Select VPN from the left-hand menu
After logging into your Fios router, select “VPN” from the left-hand menu.
On the VPN page, select “Add a new user profile” from the “User Profiles” section.
Enter a name for your VPN profile and select “PPTP” for the “Type of VPN.”
Step 3: Click the Add button
With your Fios router connected and powered on, open your web browser and go to https://www.verizon.com. You should see the My Verizon dashboard appear.
Click the My Fios tab at the top of the screen, then click the Internet link in the sidebar.
In the main Internet section, click the VPN link under Security on the left side of the screen.
On the VPN page, click the Add button next to Add a VPN Connection.
Step 4: Configure your VPN settings
4.1 In the “Basic Settings” section, click the pencil icon next to “IP Address Assignment”.
4.2 Click the “Add” button.
4.3 In the “Comment” field, enter a name for this rule (e.g. “VPN”).
4.4 For “Source Type”, select “Network”.
4.5 For “Source Net”, enter the subnet of the devices you want to have access to your VPN (e.g. 192.168.1.0/24 for all devices on your local network).
4.6 For “Destination Type”, select “Network”.
4 4 For “Destination Net”, enter the subnet of the VPN server you want to connect to (e.g. 10.8 . 0 . 0 /24 for a Mullvad server in Sweden).
4 5 Under “Action”, select “Translate”. This will trigger a new drop-down menu labeled “Translation Type”. Select “Static IP”. This will open up a new field labeled 4 6 under Destination Net, enter the public IP address of your VPN server (e . g . 46 . 28 . 249 .108 for a Mullvad server in Sweden)
4 7Click on the checkmark icon to save your changes and then click on the “Apply Changes” button at the bottom of the page
